Crossover with TV quizzing

Postby Wanstead » Wed Mar 10, 2010 00:53

My Sky+ has picked up that Challenge TV are currently showing repeats of 15-1 in the early hours. I've just seen one Jack Welsby become joint (!) winner of the 2003 season.

I think I'm pretty safe in assuming it's the Jack Welsby of previous GWR record-holding tube fame (to quote my fiancée: "he seems gimpy enough"), so it seems there's quite a crossover between Tube Challenging and TV quiz programmes.

I know there was a team of you on Eggheads and I've also noticed this thread from 2006.

I myself was on University Challenge in 2001 representing Sheffield Hallam, the first and, to date, only time that particular establishment has made it onto the programme.

Any other connections? Declare them here. No wonder you make a kick-ass quiz team.

As well as my Eggheads appearance with the team, I've also been on the National Lottery 1 vs 100 a few times, sadly never as the one playing for the cash though.

Watching the repeats of the 2002-3 season (Challenge TV, 3-4am weekdays), I've just seen William G Stewart advise Jack to "get a life, kid" after hearing he had recently acquired the GWR. :D

Retrospective good luck! I will judge you not on your score, but on what mix of vowels/consonants you go for, and more importantly how you pick your numbers. For some reason my normally placid self gets really wound up if people choose their numbers "incorrectly" (per the Scriv directive) :)

I'm just jealous that you were in the same room as Jeff Stelling.

Matt - that depends what the "Scriv directive" says with regards to picking numbers doesn't it!!

James - meeting Jeff Stelling was at least 50% of why I even applied to the show in the first place ;)

I'm gonna guess the other 50% was meeting the lovely Rachel. At least, it would be for me 8)

Indeed, very nice she is too, she's a very good laugh as well, some good banter was had (though I suspect a fair bit of it will be edited out of the final broadcast!!).
